identifies teenage mother's who are going to have a turbulent transition to motherhood and offer positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives.
Students are served by the Teen Parent Coordinator, Parent Educator, and/or Social Work Graduate Intern.
Houston Birthing Connection provides teenage mothers that have already been identified as at-risk youth, an opportunity to work with a caring Teen Parent Coordinator to improve their ability to develop a positive attitude towards their future.
The long-term goal of Houston Birthing Connection is to empower the teenage mother to break the habits of teen age pregnancy.
The teen parent coordinator relationship is utilized to establish a program of change in the teenage mother's life. The mentor encourages goal-setting, self discipline, and skill development that improves the teenage mother sense of hopefulness.
Teen parent coordinator and teenage mothers work one-on-one from pregnancy to 6 weeks postpartum and are also offered opportunities to participate in monthly group activities and outings.
Teen parent coordinator will receive continuous training throughout the year and participates in monthly meeting to report the teenage mother's progress.
The focus is the same for every teenage mother; empower the teenage mother to make positive choices in her life as a new mother.
